Aloha friends and neighbors! As the 2008 Legislative Session is upon us, I invite you and your families to join me on the opening day of the Hawaii State Legislature on Wednesday, January 16, 2008. Please join my staff, my family, and me for food and talk story after the opening ceremonies. Aloha Aina Day

On Saturday, December 1st Aloha Aina Day was held at Kapolei High School. Several local businesses, including Hagadone Printing, Pacific Biodiesel, Schnitzer Steel, SHREDEX, Goodwill, Hawaiian Earth Products, and Unitek Solvent Services also participated. I would like to thank everyone who volunteered as well as those who donated and recycled their items. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Kapolei High School and its students for travel to various academic competitions. Mark your calendars as our next Aloha Aina Day in Kapolei will be held on December 6, 2008.

 Urban Core Roads

On Monday, December 3rd, I participated in the ground breaking for the Kapolei Urban Core Roads, located at the intersection of Kamaaha Avenue and Manawai Street. The eight interlocking projects are designed to improve traffic flow in and out of Kapolei, and are slated for completion in 2010.

 Smart Growth Task Force Update

On December 6th, I led the final Smart Growth Task Force meeting. The Smart Growth Task Force drafted several bills that will be introduced in the House Majority Package during the 2008 legislative session. Since Kapolei is the fastest growing city on Oahu, it is important to remember this legislation will have a profound impact on the way development occurs in our district.

American Renaissance Academy

On December 7th, I participated in the Grand Opening Gala for the American Renaissance Academy at their new Kalaeloa location. The American Renaissance Academy is the newest private school to be located in our district and has chosen Kalaeloa as their temporary location until the Kapolei Campus is completed.
