Senator Mike Gabbard presented an honorary certificate from the State Senate to Kapolei High School teacher Michael Staffaroni at a ceremony at the school on January 17th. Mr. Staffaroni, a 10th-grade U.S. History teacher, was selected by The Hawaii Council on Economic Education to participate in its exclusive “Economics Cadre” program.
Gabbard said, “Michael’s enthusiasm and dedication to the teaching profession is truly an inspiration. We’re fortunate to have him in Kapolei.”
With the important goal of having students graduate from high school better equipped to make smart economic and financial choices, the Economics Cadre offers an intensive training program for teachers who want to empower their students. The Council, with assistance from the Hawaii State Department of Education, selects two teachers from each of the State’s 15 complex areas to join a cadre of “economics champions.” This comprehensive eighteen-month program has three core components: training, best practices, and implementation.
Mr. Staffaroni and other selected teachers received specialized, no-cost training that allows them to assist the schools within their complex in incorporating economics and personal finance into the classroom. Cadre teachers like Mr. Staffaroni are a resource for other teachers and champions for the subject of economics.
